/ About
Tamarind opened on Queen Street in 1995 and went on to become one of the first Indian restaurants in the world to win a Michelin star (2001), a milestone that reshaped how London thought about Indian cooking. Three decades on it remains one of Mayfair's defining tables: contemporary North Indian dishes built around the live tandoors of an open kitchen, with the interiors reimagined by the design studio Sagrada. The room reads as luxe and modern rather than traditional, all soft leather banquettes, marbled detailing and seasonal blossom against warm, low light.
The restaurant runs across two floors. The lower ground level holds the main dining room, where the open kitchen and a dedicated cocktail bar set a sociable, late-evening mood, while the first-floor Terrace is the brighter counterpart, flooded with daylight and framed by windows over Queen Street and the private gardens, then candlelit after dark beneath its retractable roof. A separate, lacquered private dining room in deep blue seats smaller parties behind closed doors.
For an intimate DJ-led evening, the venue's appeal is its self-contained spaces, in-house bar and house music system across the floors. Capacities suit close gatherings rather than crowds, and the Mayfair address carries its own quiet weight. Available for private hire across individual spaces or the wider restaurant.
