Signor Sassi

Signor Sassi has traded on Knightsbridge Green, a few steps from Harrods, since 1984, and it remains one of London's enduring Italian institutions. Behind a cobalt-blue frontage framed with olive trees and palms, the dining room is a study in old-school Knightsbridge glamour: mirrored walls that multiply the space, a hand-painted mural of a figure in flight, cream leather chairs dressed in white linen, and the framed photographs of decades of regulars. The kitchen keeps to the classics, from antipasti and hand-made pasta to the lobster spaghetti the room is known for.

The restaurant has always drawn a well-heeled, high-spirited crowd, and the mood is animated rather than hushed, which makes it a natural fit for a celebration. Two private dining rooms sit off the main floor. The larger seats up to 40 beneath a crystal chandelier, its walls set with a Venetian carnival mosaic and mirrored panels; the second is a more intimate setting for up to 20. The whole restaurant is also available for exclusive hire.

Part of the San Carlo group, Signor Sassi pairs a long-serving front-of-house team with a central events operation, and private bookings are arranged through the group's events team. For a DJ-led evening it offers a self-contained, street-level Knightsbridge room with genuine pedigree and a crowd already inclined to stay late.
