/ About
Behind a discreet Berners Street facade sits one of Fitzrovia's most theatrical interiors, the Philippe Starck-designed Sanderson. The lobby sets the tone with sheer drapery, oversized furniture and surreal flourishes, and the mood carries through to the onyx Long Bar, an 80-foot run of backlit stone crowned with hanging florals and ringed by Piero Fornasetti's eye-motif barstools. Now part of the Morgans Originals collection, the hotel keeps the irreverent design-hotel spirit that made it a fixture of the London social scene.
The ground floor opens onto a planted courtyard garden with a water feature and mature trees, a rare pocket of calm that doubles as an open-air reception space. Beyond it are a handful of genuinely distinct private rooms: the John Piper stained-glass Billiard Room, the lavender-soaked Purple Bar, the curtain-walled Gallery, and a top-floor Penthouse with views toward the London Eye. Each space carries its own character rather than the uniform look of a conference hotel.
For an intimate DJ-led event, the Long Bar and the Gallery are the draws. The Gallery's floor-to-ceiling white drapes and open parquet floor take a sound setup and a dance area easily, and the venue accommodates guests playing their own music alongside an in-house PA. The Purple Bar is built for a smaller, late lounge crowd, with the room's capacity quoted differently depending on whether a DJ is in residence.
