Royal Hospital Chelsea

Sir Christopher Wren laid out the Royal Hospital Chelsea for Charles II in 1692, and it has been home to the scarlet-coated Chelsea Pensioners ever since. The Grade I estate runs from the King's Road down towards the Thames, its brick ranges framing Figure Court and its lawns opening onto Ranelagh Gardens, where the RHS Chelsea Flower Show is held each May. Behind the colonnades sit some of London's least-seen state rooms, given over privately for dinners, receptions and ceremonies.
The Great Hall is the heart of it: Wren's oak-panelled dining hall, hung with paintings of British monarchs beneath a coffered ceiling, seating up to 270 for dinner or 400 for a reception. The State Apartments, the double-height Council Chamber and its Ante Room later worked on by Robert Adam, have received monarchs since the 1700s and suit smaller dinners, with Figure Court alongside for summer drinks. Ranelagh Gardens and Burton Court carry marquees through the summer, while Wren House keeps meetings and workshops apart from the ceremonial rooms.
Catering is arranged through the Hospital's list of approved suppliers, and every hire supports the care of the Pensioners. This is a heritage setting rather than a late room, and the state spaces keep to earlier evening hours; the house takes the brief from first enquiry through to the night itself.

Burton Court
Exclusive HireA broad walled lawn framed by plane trees, used through the summer for marquee receptions and garden events. Open to the sky and screened from the street, it is the estate's largest open space.
Figure Court

Ranelagh Gardens
Exclusive HireThe historic pleasure gardens on the estate's western side, home each May to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Made up of upper, middle and lower gardens, they take a marquee through the summer months for receptions and garden parties.
