/ About
The Glasshouse at RHS Garden Wisley is a public space by day. In the evening it is let privately, and a dinner for 140 or a reception for 180 takes place among the Royal Horticultural Society's tender plant collection, beside a waterfall and under a curved glass roof. Guests gather first on the Glasshouse Terrace above the lake and borders from three in the afternoon, then move inside at six as the garden empties. The evening runs until midnight, and the Glasshouse is offered for private hire from June to August.
The building was designed by the architect Peter van de Toorn Vrijthoff and opened by the Queen in June 2007, in a landscape laid out that year by Tom Stuart-Smith. The Society has held Wisley since 1903, and the garden now runs to 240 acres.
Hilltop, opened in June 2021, adds two larger rooms. The Garden Room is a light-filled 315 square metre space with its own sound system, seating 200 for dinner. The glass-vaulted Atrium is taken after hours for a dinner of 200 or a reception of up to 400 among the plant science exhibitions, and the two-tier Sky Terrace sits above them. Nearer the entrance, the Terrace Restaurant has room for dancing and a private patio, and the Waterlily Pavilion looks along the Jellicoe Canal to the Laboratory. Catering across the garden is by the in-house team.
