The Painter's Room

The Painter's Room is Claridge's newest bar, opened in 2021 in a jewel-box space at the heart of the Mayfair hotel, between the ballroom and the Talking Heads Gallery. It is the hotel's third bar, alongside the Claridge's Bar and the Fumoir. Bryan O'Sullivan Studio drew the room from the hotel's own 1930s archive: a sculpted pink onyx counter runs its length, green onyx panels frame the back bar, and a scalloped glass skylight casts a soft peach light over everything below.

The bar takes its spirit from the artist Annie Morris, whose commission runs across the whole space. A monochrome mural of figures sketching, talking and drinking is drawn onto the walls, and her first work in stained glass, hand-blown and set opposite the bar, is the room's coloured heart. It is a small room by design, with leather banquettes and circular tables gathered close, and the drinks list reaches from rare champagnes to a cocktail menu built around European art and travel.

For a private event the whole bar is taken exclusively, holding around 35 for a standing reception with a late licence to 1am. It suits an intimate drinks party, a launch or a celebration where the room itself is the occasion. As it sits within Claridge's, booking is arranged through the house rather than a published hire package.
