/ About
NIJŪ occupies 20 Berkeley Street, the Mayfair address that gives the restaurant its name: nijū is Japanese for twenty. It trades in katei ryōri, the home-style Japanese cooking rarely served at this level in London, alongside an open sushi counter and a section of Wagyu and Kobe beef finished over the konro grill. The kitchen carries the imprint of Endo Kazutoshi, the third-generation sushi master behind Endo at the Rotunda, though day-to-day service is run by the resident chefs. Warm oak, woven textures and pendant lighting set a quiet, domestic tone across the ground-floor dining rooms and the sushi bar.
The two principal rooms, Hidari and Migi, each seat sixty and can be taken privately; together with the sushi counter they make up a whole-venue buyout for up to 110 seated or 185 standing. A smaller private dining room seats eighteen, dressed in bespoke furniture and heavy textiles, with its own service team, a drinks trolley and a speaker system for the room's own music.
Downstairs, Nipperkin is an intimate listening bar modelled on the Tokyo kissa of the 1950s: cocktails and a spirit selection served around a central table while records play. It opens Thursday to Saturday and is available for private receptions. Enquiries for all spaces run through the events team.
