Margot

Margot is an Italian restaurant on Great Queen Street in Covent Garden, founded by Paulo de Tarso and Nicolas Jaouën, who came to it from the front of house at Bar Boulud and La Petite Maison. It takes its name from de Tarso's mother-in-law, and its emblem, a dachshund, from her husband's nickname for her. The same dog is woven in gold into the rug at the foot of the wine wall.

The ground floor is a run of curved black leather banquettes, brass lamps and walls set with green glass roundels, with a long bar at the front. The kitchen cooks classic Italian dishes from the regions, with bread and pasta made in-house, and the wine list runs to some 360 bottles.

Downstairs, the Club Room seats up to 32 for private dining, meetings and parties. It is finished in deep green leather with polished brass and blackened steel, lit by deco-inspired fittings over a floor cut from three marbles in a custom pattern, and it has a small cocktail bar of its own.
