Loseley Park

Loseley House is an Elizabethan manor three miles south of Guildford, built between 1562 and 1569 by Sir William More, whose descendants still live in it. It stands in 1,400 acres of Surrey parkland and is listed Grade I. Nothing inside is staged. The Great Hall holds panels painted for Henry VIII's banqueting tents, carving by Grinling Gibbons and George IV's coronation chair, and the Drawing Room ceiling was made for a visit by James I.

For a private event the family lets the house and gardens for exclusive use. The Great Hall, with its oak panelling, stone fireplace and family portraits, is set for exclusive dinners and seats 102 for a ceremony. The Tithe Barn is a 17th-century barn of exposed oak beams under a vaulted ceiling, and it seats 140 for dinner or holds 180 for a reception, with a marquee on the lawns for a larger party.

Outside, the two-and-a-half-acre Walled Garden is laid out as a series of rooms, among them a rose garden of more than a thousand old English roses. The White Garden, planted in white, cream and silver around a central water feature, takes drinks receptions and summer parties. A late licence is available on request. The house also hosts weddings, and it opens to visitors on set days in season before closing for the winter.
