/ About
La Trompette has held its stretch of Devonshire Road in Chiswick since March 2001, and it holds a MICHELIN star. It shares its ownership with Chez Bruce on Wandsworth Common. The kitchen is led by Greg Wellman, who cooked at The Square, Chez Bruce and Elystan Street before running the group's sister restaurant, The Glasshouse in Kew. The cooking is modern British, built on French technique with the occasional Mediterranean turn, and Michelin lists it among London's restaurants for wine lovers.
The room was rebuilt in 2013, when the restaurant closed for a full refurbishment and reopened with a new kitchen and a private dining room. It is calm and light: pale plastered walls hung with contemporary art, oak floors, white linen, and a run of tall windows onto a terrace screened by box hedges along the street.
The Private Dining Room sits at the front of the house behind sliding screens, with its own windows onto Devonshire Road, and seats between 10 and 16. The whole restaurant can also be taken for exclusive use, and the team arranges the room, the menu and the service around the occasion. It suits a long birthday lunch or a family dinner better than a late party.
