/ About
Hawksmoor's Covent Garden steakhouse occupies the vaulted cellars of the former Watney-Combe brewery, a few quiet minutes from Seven Dials down Langley Street. A barrel-vaulted brick ceiling runs the length of the room over ranks of Victorian cast-iron columns, and the fit-out was assembled almost entirely from salvage: parquet lifted from the old Christie's auction rooms, chemistry-lab worktops repurposed as bar tables, and reclaimed doors from stations and hotels. It opened in 2010 as the group's first West End site and remains one of the more characterful dining rooms in the neighbourhood.
The kitchen is built around charcoal-grilled British beef, hung and aged in-house and served family-style in cast-iron skillets, alongside a daily-changing seafood list. The bar is a destination of its own, pouring one of London's more serious cocktail lists and doubling as a reception space before dinner. Hawksmoor became a B Corp in 2022, and the room carries that plainness of intent rather than any gloss.
For private events the whole restaurant is available for exclusive hire, seating up to 120 across the main room, with semi-private areas for smaller parties of 18 or 28 and the bar for standing receptions. The enclosed cellar setting, warm lighting and heavy masonry make it an unusually private central-London room for a seated dinner that carries on into the evening.
