Goldsmiths' Hall

Goldsmiths' Hall has been the home of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths since 1339, though the building on Foster Lane today is Philip Hardwick's, opened with a grand banquet in July 1835. It is one of the few buildings in the quarter to have come through the Blitz, and it has housed the London Assay Office since 1478: the word hallmark takes its name from this hall. Grade I listed, it stands three minutes' walk from St Paul's.

Four rooms are available for hire. The Livery Hall is the principal space, 224 square metres beneath a twelve-metre moulded ceiling in gold leaf, with Corinthian columns, stained glass and four English glass chandeliers; it seats 240 at a banquet and holds 300 at a reception. The Drawing Room, rebuilt after war damage and hung with two seventeenth-century tapestries, serves as a reception room and leads through to the others. The Exhibition Room is panelled in English walnut and shows a changing display of the Company's silver, while the oak-panelled Luncheon Room suits a single long table. A marble staircase connects them.

Catering is handled exclusively by the Hall's in-house partner. The Livery Hall carries a concealed PA with microphones, a stage and back projection, and its chandeliers can be lit by candle rather than current. Hire is licensed until 11pm, with extensions available by Temporary Event Notice.
