/ About
Gloria opened on Great Eastern Street on 22 February 2019, Big Mamma's first London restaurant. The ivy-clad corner unit reads as a fantasy of 1950s Capri: yellow awnings, ranks of terracotta pots along the pavement, and a dining room of striped banquettes, hand-painted ceramic plates and marble tabletops sourced from antique dealers across Italy.
Downstairs, the register changes. A ceiling of antique mirror tiles sits above dark red velour booths and a sunken open kitchen, giving the basement a moodier, later-running feel than the room above. A smaller wine room, set apart from the main floor, holds the restaurant's Italian list, heavy on Barolo and Amarone. The kitchen turns out Neapolitan pizza from a wood-fired oven alongside handmade pasta, run largely by a team from Naples.
Gloria takes private hire across the building: the whole restaurant, the basement on its own, or the wine room for a tighter group, for birthdays, corporate parties and celebrations.
