/ About

Gleneagles opened on 7 June 1924, built by the Caledonian Railway with its own station, and its opening night went out as Scotland's first outside radio broadcast. A century on it holds three MICHELIN Keys and houses Restaurant Andrew Fairlie, which holds two MICHELIN stars. The hotel sits in 850 acres in Perthshire, about an hour from Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The Ballroom is the original event space, where the hotel was officially opened and where Dior showed in 1955. It has crystal chandeliers, mirrored walls, a velvet-curtained stage and a sprung floor, and takes 360 for cocktails. Henry Hall, named after the bandleader of the hotel's first band, is larger again at 450. Smaller rooms run through the old hotel: the panelled Billiard Room, the Drawing Room with its own staffed bar, the semicircular Glendevon on the lawns, the Parlour, and the Broadcasting Room beside a country kitchen pantry.

Two of the most private settings sit away from the main floor. The Cellar, the hotel's century-old wine cellar, now runs with Dom Pérignon as a table for twelve. The Shooting Lodge, at the Shooting & Fishing School a short drive away, is wood-clad with a stone chimney and takes 100 for a barbecue. The house's own line on its celebrations is to drink, dine and dance until the wee hours.
