George Club

Founded in 2001 by Mark Birley and named after his dachshund, George occupies a double-width townhouse at 87-88 Mount Street — the corner plot giving it the largest covered terrace in Mayfair, running the circumference of the building with over 44 covers, heated and lit until 1am. The 2023 refurbishment, overseen by Richard and Patricia Caring, nearly doubled the club's footprint and introduced two distinct floors of rooms united by an art collection centred on David Hockney.

The main restaurant is a mirrored room with a lacquered ceiling, framed Hockney prints and white-clothed tables on a patterned carpet. Downstairs, the Hound Bar is a different proposition entirely: a subterranean Art Deco vault fitted with an antique brass bar, mahogany stools, floral carpet and deep-red velvet seating arranged in booths and corners. It is where the club comes alive later in the evening, with a resident DJ programme that runs into the early hours under a 1am licence. The private dining room, new since the refurbishment, seats 16 around a single table surrounded by Hockney works and looks out onto Mount Street through floor-to-ceiling windows.

Now part of the Birley Clubs portfolio alongside Annabel's and Harry's Bar, George remains among the harder members' clubs to join in Mayfair — its membership base drawn from the worlds of fashion, art and media. Private hire of the Hound Bar or the dining room is available for members and their guests.
