/ About
Dinner by Heston Blumenthal opened inside Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in January 2011 and has held two Michelin stars for most of its run. The concept is historic British gastronomy: dishes drawn from recipes spanning five centuries, from the late Middle Ages to the 1960s, reworked for the modern table. The Meat Fruit, a chicken-liver parfait disguised as a mandarin, and the spit-roasted Tipsy Cake are the signatures that built its reputation.
The dining room looks straight onto Hyde Park through tall windows, with ivory-toned walls, deep banquette seating and chandeliers cast in the shape of the Tudor rose. Porcelain wall sconces are modelled on antique cake moulds, and a floor-to-ceiling glass wall opens the kitchen to the room: behind it sits the restaurant's best-known piece of theatre, the mechanical pineapple clock whose pulley turns the spit used for the Tipsy Cake. The result is a fine-dining room that wears its sense of history lightly, equally suited to a quiet lunch by the park or a full evening of the kitchen's set pieces.
For private occasions the restaurant offers two intimate settings. The King's Table is a Tudor-inspired room for up to twelve, with embossed deep-red walls, a blind that draws across the window into the main room for complete privacy, and a Chamberlain dedicated to the table. The Chef's Table seats up to six beside the kitchen, wrapped in a hand-drawn mural by the artist Dave McKean, with courses delivered straight from the pass. The whole restaurant can also be taken for exclusive use. Note: the restaurant has announced it will close at the end of January 2027, when its tenancy at the hotel concludes; confirm availability before any outreach.
