Design Museum

The atrium is the heart of the museum: a triple-height space in oak and marble beneath the building's swept concrete roof, ringed by galleries on the floors above. It can be dressed for a seated dinner on the ground floor or opened up across the mezzanine and upper levels for a larger standing reception, with a private view of the current exhibition available on request.

A 319 sq m gallery on the second floor with floor-to-ceiling windows over Holland Park and a retractable wall that divides it for a smaller event or opens it out for a larger one. Blank white walls make it a straightforward space to brand, and a car lift built into the room can bring vehicles or large set pieces up from ground level.

A 202-seat raked auditorium with fixed tiered seating, a large fixed projection screen and an in-built PA system, suited to screenings, panel discussions and conference presentations. A podium and wired and wireless microphones are provided, with a camera link through to a green room.

On the second floor, near the Huth Gallery, a bright room designed with interior designer Matthew Williamson around the colours of Holland Park below. Modular furniture and a built-in pewter bar allow it to be dressed for a reception, a theatre-style briefing or a seated dinner on round tables, or hired unfurnished.

A quiet, multi-tiered garden behind the museum, named for the landscape architect who designed the grounds of the original Commonwealth Institute. Screened from the street by mature planting, it makes a secluded outdoor setting for a reception, with direct access through to the atrium.

An outdoor terrace at the museum's main entrance, centred on a fountain and set within the wider gardens of Holland Park. Runs as a reception space in its own right or alongside an evening hire of the atrium, and is easily reached from the main entrance.

A daytime meeting space on the first floor with views over Holland Park, divisible by a retractable wall into two smaller rooms. Vitra furniture and a large touchscreen suit workshops, training days and business meetings.

A second first-floor meeting room, set up for workshops and training sessions with Vitra furniture and two large touchscreens. Books alongside the Ulm and Bauhaus Rooms as a breakout space or catering area for a larger daytime event.

A long room on the top floor, designed by Universal Design Studio and hung with a set of Philip Sayer photographs of noted designers. A polished pewter bar and Barber Osgerby furniture suit a daytime reception or a seated lunch on one long table, and it doubles as a private VIP lounge alongside an evening hire of the atrium.
