COOC

COOC is a private members' club set in the basement of The Mandrake, the Fitzrovia hotel founded by art collector Rami Fustok. Its name unpacks as Coconut Ostrich Orange Candy, a nod to a club that refuses to take itself too seriously, and it draws a membership from London's art, music and fashion worlds. Entry is through a discreet door that opens into a low-lit world of deep velvets, patterned walls and The Mandrake's surrealist murals.

At its centre is the Theatre, a subterranean room with a stage, a DJ booth, its own bar and a licence to 2am. It holds around 70 for a standing reception and seats 30 for dinner, and it shifts easily between a film screening, a fashion showcase and a DJ-led club night. On the first Thursday of each month the club gathers here for a members' night of live performance, and the room has hosted festival afterparties through the summer season.

Members move freely across the rest of The Mandrake, from the South American cooking at YOPO to the planted Jurema terrace, the late hours of Waeska and the DAMU spa below. For a private event the whole club can be taken over, with the hotel's events team handling the detail.
