/ About

Coal Office is the shared playground of chef Assaf Granit and designer Tom Dixon, set in one of the Victorian coal offices that Heatherwick's Coal Drops Yard restored beside Granary Square. Granit cooks the Jerusalem food that made his name at The Palomar and The Barbary, built on sharp herbs, chargrill and freshly baked breads; Dixon dressed the rooms in his own hand, hanging clusters of copper pendant lights over raw brick and blackened wood.

The building runs to three floors. The ground-floor main restaurant is arranged around an open kitchen and a chef's counter, with a carved black-wood banquette down one side. Upstairs, the first floor opens onto a terrace with views across the yard and the rebuilt gasholders. Under the railway brick, the Tom Dixon Arches sit beneath a vault, the most intimate of the rooms and the one that most clearly bears the designer's mark.

For private events the whole main restaurant is available for exclusive hire, alongside two dedicated spaces: the First Floor and Terrace, and the Tom Dixon Arches. Granit's kitchen serves the occasion family-style, in the sharing format the restaurant is built around, and the events team runs each booking from start to finish. It suits a milestone celebration, a launch or a seated corporate dinner in a room that reads unmistakably as its own.
