/ About

The Barbican Centre is the arts complex at the heart of the City of London: a concert hall, two theatres, three cinemas, galleries and a tropical conservatory, all built into one Grade II listed Brutalist landmark by Chamberlin, Powell and Bon. It opened in 1982 and is the home of the London Symphony Orchestra. The commercial hire operation runs across the whole building, from the 1,943-seat Hall down to a twenty-seat boardroom on the fourth floor.

The room most people come for is the Conservatory, a glasshouse on Level 3 holding over 1,500 species of plants and trees, with coloured lighting built into the planting for events held after dusk. Alongside it sit the Conservatory Terrace, under the same glass roof, and the Garden Room, whose floor-to-ceiling windows look out over the lake, St Giles Cripplegate and the City skyline. The three can be taken together for up to 650 guests. Searcys is the in-house caterer and every booking is assigned its own event manager.

For anything staged, the Hall and the Theatre come with fixed stages, house PA and technical crews, while Cinema 1 and the two Frobisher auditoria handle screenings and presentations at a smaller scale. The Barbican is also one of London's most requested locations for fashion and brand work: recent London Fashion Week shows have been staged in the Conservatory and out in the Sculpture Court.
