London's first art'otel occupies Battersea Roof Gardens, a Foster + Partners building on Electric Boulevard, the new street laid out beside the rebuilt Battersea Power Station. The Spanish artist and designer Jaime Hayon is its Signature Artist, which here means more than a lobby commission: he drew the curves, set the palette and filled the 164 rooms and every public space with his own paintings, sculptures and furniture, alongside a series of surrealist portraits he commissioned from the Dutch duo KlunderBie for the lobby. The hotel took its first guests in December 2022 and launched formally the following February.
The building is read vertically. TOZI Pizzeria & Cicchetti Bar sits at street level facing the boulevard, with TOZI Counter beside it and a planted terrace off the side. Perola, an art deco cocktail room running a weekly programme of Latin jazz, funk and DJs, is on the fourteenth floor. JOIA, the first London restaurant from the Portuguese chef Henrique Sa Pessoa, is on the fifteenth. The pool, bar and gardens on the sixteenth look straight down the chimneys.
For private hire the range is unusually wide. Six Creative Rooms run from a four-seat meeting room to three ground-floor spaces that open into one another and the lobby beyond, taking 250 for a reception; the Masterpiece Suite offers a hundred square metres with its own lounge and kitchenette. Above them, JOIA's restaurant, bar and rooftop can be taken together for 350. The hotel is licensed for weddings and civil ceremonies, and the rooftop bar holds a licence until 2am.
