/ About

Amberley Castle sits behind its own curtain walls and portcullis at the foot of the South Downs, a medieval fortress near Arundel that now runs as a small country hotel under Andrew Brownsword Hotels. Twelve acres of gardens lie inside and around the walls, and the house keeps its period rooms: the Queen's Room restaurant under a 12th-century vaulted ceiling, and the Great Room, a Norman hall with lancet windows, tapestries, suits of armour and an open fire.

The castle is available for exclusive use, which gives a party the whole building, its bedrooms and suites, the historic dining rooms and the grounds, with nobody else inside the walls. The house pitches it for milestone birthdays, anniversaries and family gatherings as well as company retreats. For smaller occasions the Great Room seats up to 40 at an E-shaped table, and the panelled King Charles I Room and the Green Room each seat 12.

Matt Gillan joined as executive chef in July 2026 and writes tailored menus for exclusive-use events. The castle publishes no music or late-licence policy, so any plan involving a DJ is one to raise with the events team at enquiry.
