/ About
Akara occupies a Victorian railway arch in Borough Yards, the second London restaurant from Aji Akokomi after Fitzrovia's Akoko. It takes its name from the black-eyed pea fritter that anchors the menu, served with fillings from lobster to smoked fish alongside larger plates and a drinks list built on West African flavours and a scotch bonnet cordial. The kitchen holds a Bib Gourmand in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide.
The A-nrd Studio interior sets pale oak, limestone and hand-carved timber against the arch's exposed brick, with an open kitchen and counter seating on the ground floor. A mezzanine private dining room seats up to 14 around a sculptural table that divides into four, and floor-to-ceiling linen curtains close it off from the room below or draw back over the restaurant. The whole space is available for exclusive hire for larger gatherings, a discreet setting for private dinners and celebrations in Bankside.
