British Art Fair 2027

23 – 26 September 2027 Saatchi Gallery · Chelsea

The only London fair given wholly to Modern and Contemporary British art returns to the Saatchi Gallery for its 2027 edition, four days of specialist dealers in Chelsea.

Specialist dealers open London’s autumn art season at the British Art Fair, at the Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea from Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 September 2027.

The fair opened at The Cumberland Hotel in September 1988. Its founders argued that Modern British painting had no fair of its own and was shown as a footnote inside international ones. It moved to the Royal College of Art in 1991 and came to Duke of York’s Square in 2018.

It is the only London fair given wholly to Modern and Contemporary British art. Works run from under £100 to six figures, and the dealers’ scholarship on Camden Town, St Ives and the postwar abstract painters travels with the pictures.

At the 2026 edition, Christopher Kingzett sold Sickert’s The Visitor, a Camden Town picture of 1905 to 1906, for £95,000. Harry Moore-Gwyn placed Spencer Gore’s The Artist’s Wife, Mornington Crescent, and Bridget Riley’s Brouillard sold for £26,000.

Five paintings by Mildred Bendall found buyers. Women painters, Mary Fedden and Gwen John among them, hung beside Lowry, Hitchens and Hockney. The constructivist Gillian Wise and Joan Warburton were among the overlooked names that sold early.
