On the centenary of Mikis Theodorakis, Maria Farantouri returns to the Royal Festival Hall for a tribute to the composer whose songs became the voice of modern Greece. Farantouri, his lifelong interpreter, leads a programme spanning anthems of resistance, songs of love and freedom, and the world-famous music of Zorba the Greek. She is joined by the Estoudiantina Neas Ionias orchestra under Andreas Katsigiannis, with traditional bouzouki, santouri, laouto, violin and clarinet shaping the distinctive Theodorakis sound. Presented by Greece on Tour at the Southbank Centre, it is an evening of Hellenic song carried by one of its most enduring voices.
