The London film composer and pianist Costas Fotopoulos plays a Hellenic Centre recital that runs from Scarlatti and Bach through Chopin to Agosti’s Firebird transcription.
The film composer and pianist Costas Fotopoulos plays a solo piano recital at The Hellenic Centre in Marylebone on Thursday 26 November 2026.
Fotopoulos is Greek and has spent most of his working life in London writing for film. He took a master’s in composition for film, television and multimedia at the Royal College of Music, on a scholarship and with distinction.
In 2002 he conducted his own music to a reel of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis at a BAFTA masterclass. He reached the final of the Volkswagen score competition at the Berlin film festival in 2007. He has scored Jamie Thraves’s silent feature The Projectionist and worked as an assistant to Trevor Jones.
The recital is the one evening of the Centre’s largely spoken autumn given wholly to the piano. It opens on 1685, the year Scarlatti and Bach were both born, with three Scarlatti sonatas and the sixth of Bach’s keyboard Partitas.
The second half turns to Chopin, with the second of the Op. 62 Nocturnes, the First Ballade and Fotopoulos’s own Hommage à Chopin. Two of Granados’s Spanish Dances follow, and Guido Agosti’s transcription of three movements from Stravinsky’s Firebird closes the evening.
