Alkistis Protopsalti, one of Greek song's most enduring voices across five decades, gave a career-spanning performance at Islington's candlelit Union Chapel.
Alkistis Protopsalti, who has recorded in Greece since 1975, gave a career-spanning Best Of performance at Union Chapel in Islington on Friday 13 February 2026.
She was born Alkistis-Sevasti Attikiouzeloglou in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1954 to Greek parents. At six she moved with her family to Athens, part of the wider displacement of Greeks from Egypt during the 1950s.
She has released 16 studio albums, more than half of them number ones in both Greece and Cyprus. Her best-selling record, San Ifestio Pou Xipna, from 1997, sold more than 100,000 copies and went double platinum in both countries. Her 2002 duet with the singer Antonis Remos, “S’Agapo”, also topped the charts.
Her tradition is modern entehno, literate Greek song set to orchestration, and her platinum and gold records span four decades. Beyond music, she served as Greece’s Alternate Minister of Tourism in the caretaker government of 2015.
The candlelit chapel is a deconsecrated Victorian church known for its acoustics. Two days before Valentine’s Day, she leaned on the romantic and nostalgic corners of her songbook.
Six musicians and a guest performer joined her on stage.
