Twenty years after forming in a Greek village, 1000mods bring Cheat Death, the heaviest record of their career, to The Garage on Highbury Corner on Sunday 29 November.

The band formed in 2006 in Chiliomodi, and the name is a pun on it, since chilia is Greek for a thousand. After two EPs they made their first album, Super Van Vacation, with Billy Anderson, the producer of Sleep and Neurosis, and took it on two European tours across fifteen countries. Vultures followed in 2014 and Repeated Exposure To… in 2016. In 2018 they crossed to North America for twenty-nine shows across Mexico, Canada and the United States.

Their fourth album, Youth of Dissent, was recorded in Seattle in 2020 with Matt Bayles, who produced Mastodon, and released on the band’s own label. When the founding guitarist Giannis S. left in 2024, Dani G., Giorgos T. and Labros G. answered as a trio that November with Cheat Death. Their standing was built on the road, through Desertfest, Up in Smoke and Keep It Low and a coast-to-coast American tour in 2023.

London has heard them since, at EartH in Hackney in February 2025 and at the Roundhouse that December. This date returns them to the room they played in April 2024, the former Temperance Billiard Hall that reopened as The Garage in 1993, with Pulp the first big name on its stage.
