Thirteen

Thirteen holds the corner where Denmark Street meets Flitcroft Street, on the ground floor of Chateau Denmark behind a black shopfront and red awnings. The room is deliberately theatrical: a faceted red ceiling, a bar front in beaten gold, an ornate plaster arch framing a floral back wall set with convex mirrors, and a chequerboard marble floor running the length of the space. Cocktails and Japanese-inspired small plates are served from midday, and the doors stay open until 1am from Thursday to Saturday.

Music is the point rather than the backdrop. Denmark Street's guitar shops are still next door, and Thirteen runs a weekly DJ programme on Friday and Saturday nights that moves through soul, funk and disco with occasional turns towards the street's rock history. There is a DJ booth and a house sound system, and the bar is licensed to 2am with extensions available.

Below it, reached by its own door on Flitcroft Street, dial8 is a low basement bar of roughly 387 square feet with a curved counter, a mirrored ceiling and a semi-private snug. It takes private hire on its own terms — playbacks, screenings, launches, receptions — and runs to 3am at weekends. Either space can be taken exclusively, and both can be taken together.
