The Peninsula London opened in September 2023 at 1–5 Grosvenor Place, looking across Hyde Park Corner and the Wellington Arch, completing a project more than a decade in the planning. The building — designed by Hopkins Architects with interiors by Peter Marino — runs to 190 guest rooms and suites across nine floors, with 20,419 square feet of dedicated event space arranged around a sweeping pillarless ballroom, a suite of configurable meeting rooms, a private cinema, and a terrace suite with unobstructed views over Belgravia's rooftops. Marino's approach throughout is restrained British grandeur: Portuguese limestone columns, hand-blown crystal chandeliers, de Gournay painted murals, and more than forty commissions from artists at The Royal Drawing School.
At ground level, Canton Blue serves refined Cantonese cuisine in a setting designed by CAP Atelier Hong Kong, its main dining room lined with backlit displays of Cantonese porcelain. Within it sit two bookable private rooms: The Silk Room, where indigo silk walls carry large-scale dragon embroidery and red Beijing glass vases hang from the ceiling, and The Music Room, its walls framing cabinets of antique Chinese instruments — the yueqin, the guzheng, the pipa. One floor up, The Lobby continues the Peninsula tradition of grand all-day dining, with triple-height coffered ceilings, an elevated music gallery where live performers play from 2pm to 11pm, and a 130-cover floor that can be privatised for exclusive events.
For event production, the St. George Ballroom is the signature space: fully pillarless, six metres to a coffered ceiling, with two vehicle-sized lifts that allow load-in of substantial installations and have been used for automobile exhibitions. The Wellington Room, adjacent and connected by its own pre-function foyer, scales down to 60 for seated dinners. The Grand Terrace Suite occupies a residential floor with its own private kitchen, private lift access, and an alfresco terrace overlooking the Belgravia skyline — well-suited to smaller gatherings that benefit from a sense of arrival distinct from the main hotel floors.

St. George Ballroom
Exclusive HireThe hotel's principal event space spans 7,492 square feet across a fully pillarless floor with six-metre coffered ceilings and glass chandeliers. Two vehicle-sized dedicated lifts allow extraordinary load-in capability — car shows and large-scale installations have both been staged here. The adjoining pre-function area adds a further 2,336 square feet and accommodates up to 450 for a standing reception before guests move through. The ballroom's acoustic and AV infrastructure supports large-scale music production alongside corporate formats.
Grand Terrace Suite
PrivateA residential-grade event suite on an upper floor, reached by its own private lift and featuring a fully equipped private kitchen and guest cloakrooms. The defining feature is an expansive private terrace with unobstructed views across Belgravia and the Knightsbridge skyline — unusual for an event space in this part of SW1. Seated dinners run to 50 guests; standing receptions to 80.
Wellington Room
PrivateAdjacent to the St. George Ballroom and connected by its own pre-function foyer, the Wellington Room scales the ballroom's proportional language down to a more intimate register. At five metres the ceiling is still generous; ambient perimeter lighting and a neutral palette keep the atmosphere fresh rather than corporate. Seats up to 60 for a dinner, 80 for a standing reception — well-suited to a private celebration or DJ-led supper that doesn't require the full ballroom.
The Silk Room
PrivateOne of two private dining rooms within Canton Blue, The Silk Room takes Chinese Opera as its aesthetic starting point: walls are layered in silk embroidered with dragon motifs in deep indigo, and a cluster of adjustable red Beijing glass vases descends from the ceiling, their intensity tunable to suit the mood of the evening. Full-room capacity is 30 seated; the space can be divided for an intimate table of twelve.
The Music Room
PrivateThe companion private room within Canton Blue dedicates its walls to illuminated cabinets of antique Chinese instruments — the yueqin moon lute, the double-stringed guzheng, the pipa — arranged as both art installation and quiet tribute to the restaurant's cultural brief. Suits intimate dinners for up to twelve guests where atmosphere and specificity of design matter as much as the table.
Private Cinema
PrivateFifteen reclining seats in a purpose-built screening room finished in warm wood panelling, with a 200-inch micro-perforated screen, a 4K cinema projector, and Dolby surround-sound. An adjoining bar area and dedicated restrooms complete the suite, making it an effective standalone venue for a very small group — a film premiere after-dinner, a private presentation, or a late-night screening after a larger event elsewhere in the hotel.
