/ About
James Wyatt built The Kennels in 1787 to house the third Duke of Richmond's foxhounds, and set it in the park as an eye-catcher to be seen from Goodwood House. The flint and brick range now serves as the private clubhouse for all of the Goodwood Estate's sporting and social members, with a restaurant cooking from the organic Home Farm, a bar pouring Goodwood gin and English sparkling wine, and a terrace looking across Duchess Paddock towards the House.
Membership is not required to hire it. A host can take one of the dining areas or the whole building. The Dining Rooms seat up to 94 when the main restaurant and the Terrace Dining Room are combined, and the Music Room, lined with a private collection of Penguin paperbacks under tall Georgian windows, seats 28. Upstairs, the Library and its landing hold 40 for Champagne and canapés among cases of sporting curios. In the warmer months the Putting Green, a canopied courtyard behind flint walls with its own bar, takes 100 for dinner.
The hours sold differ by product. Private and exclusive hire is offered Monday to Saturday through the daytime, and on Sunday until 4pm. For weddings the building can be taken for the full day or for the evening alone, and the restaurant serves dinner from Thursday to Saturday. Anyone planning a party after dark should confirm the finishing time with the events team at enquiry.
