/ About

The Hurlingham Club has stood in Ranelagh Gardens since 1869, when it opened as a pigeon-shooting ground on 42 acres bordering the Thames. Hurlingham House at its centre is older still, a substantial brick and stucco house of 1760 listed Grade II*, and the lawns in front of it are regarded as the birthplace of modern polo. Croquet and cricket are still played on them, and each year the Club stages the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic and the Alfred Dunhill Padel Classic.

Events are held in the East Wing, 938 square metres of recently renovated rooms entered from the Four-In-Hand Yard. Palm Court is the arrival hall, a long room under a 43-metre domed glass roof with a private bar, adjustable lighting and a built-in PA. It opens into the Broomhouse Suite, which has a fully sprung dance floor, floor-to-ceiling windows along two walls and blackout when you want it. Opened through, the two rooms take 500 for dinner or 850 standing. The Mulgrave Theatre sits alongside with an extensive stage and tiered seating that rolls back to leave a flat floor. Doors give onto the Terrace and down to the Sunken Garden.

Hire is open to non-members as well as members, and the event space and its outdoor terraces are yours exclusively for the day. The wider grounds and the Club's sporting facilities remain members-only, though the Events Team will arrange the cricket pitch, croquet lawns or tennis courts separately when they are not in use. Catering is in-house under Head Chef Andrew Grahame and the Club does not let on a dry-hire basis. The licence runs to 1am Monday to Thursday and 2am on Friday and Saturday. Amplified music is welcome indoors with the terrace doors closed, and outdoor performance is considered case by case out of respect for neighbours.

Seats 500 / Up to 850

The whole East Wing thrown into one room. Palm Court's 43-metre glass roof runs the length of the arrival hall and the movable partitions come out to join it to the Broomhouse Suite and its sprung dance floor, with the Terrace beyond. This is the full buyout and the configuration behind the Club's largest galas and award dinners.

The room guests walk into, a 43.25 by 10.75 metre hall beneath a domed glass ceiling that carries daylight down its whole length. It has its own bar, adjustable lighting, removable soft furnishings and a built-in PA, and it connects directly to every other banqueting room in the wing.

Broomhouse Room

Seats 210 / Up to 350

The larger half of the Broomhouse Suite, sprung floor with the garden windows along one side and its own access to the Terrace. Taken on its own it suits a dinner dance that wants a room rather than a hall.

Mulgrave Theatre

Private
Seats 100 / Up to 200

A timber-lined auditorium with an extensive built-in stage and its own terrace. The tiered seating rolls back to leave a flat floor, so the room works as a screening and lecture space one day and a seated dinner the next.

Ranelagh Room & Lobby

Private
Seats 80

The smaller end of the Broomhouse Suite with the lobby attached, partitioned off as a break-out room for a seated cabaret, a private reception ahead of dinner next door, or a speakers' room during a conference.

The Terrace and Sunken Garden

Semi Private

The Terrace runs off the Broomhouse Suite and looks across the lawns towards the river, and a short walk away the walled Sunken Garden drops through stone steps into deep borders. Both come with the event space for receptions and photographs; the wider grounds stay members-only.
