Sartoria

Sartoria has held its corner of Savile Row since 1998, the space Sir Terence Conran built as an homage to the tailors' shopfronts either side of it. David d'Almada's winter 2015 redesign brought in Francesco Mazzei as chef patron and reset the interior around his native Calabria: the diamond-quilted columns and brass chandelier above the main dining room now read as much Milanese nightclub as English gentleman's outfitter. A cicchetti counter and the Libare Bar sit off the main floor, pouring Bellinis, Negronis and Spritzes alongside a wine list built almost entirely from small Italian producers.

The private side of the building runs to three rooms. La Milano and La Bottega are twin dining rooms behind opaque sliding doors that open onto the main restaurant floor or close for privacy, each seating up to 24; combined as La Stanza Grande they take 50 seated or 70 standing. The Vino Room is smaller still, a six-cover table set inside the wine store itself, floor-to-ceiling bottles on one side and a glass panel back onto the restaurant on the other.

For larger parties, Sartoria takes exclusive hire of the whole building — dining floor, all three private rooms, the bar and the heated terrace — up to 250 for a standing reception, with the restaurant cleared for a dance floor at the smaller end of that range. It is the only restaurant on Savile Row itself, which keeps the street-level buzz distinctly tailoring-district rather than Mayfair-generic.
