Royal Albert Hall

Set on Kensington Gore, facing the Albert Memorial and Hyde Park, the Royal Albert Hall is the Grade I listed Victorian rotunda that Queen Victoria opened in 1871 in memory of Prince Albert. Its coliseum-style auditorium rises through five tiers of seating and boxes to a domed roof hung with the acoustic diffusers added in the 1960s, and it has been the home of the BBC Proms since 1941. Beyond the concerts, the building holds a series of private rooms that most audiences never see.

The auditorium itself is available for private hire, seating up to 2,000 for dinner and holding up to 5,000 for a reception, with the stage, tiered boxes and Willis organ as a backdrop. Around and above it sit the state and reception rooms: the Gallery, at the very top of the Hall, looks down over the auditorium; the Prince of Wales and Henry Cole Rooms keep their Victorian decoration and views across the park; and the Clive Room, designed by Nina Campbell, seats twelve for private dining.

Two contemporary spaces widen the range. The Elgar Room on the south side is a flexible room used for dinners, receptions and live performance, while the basement 1871 Bar suits larger, later gatherings and Coda, the restaurant by Eric Chavot on the Rausing Circle, opens for private dining above the park. Catering across the building is handled in-house by rhubarb, and a dedicated events team coordinates each booking, from a boardroom lunch for a dozen to a reception for several thousand.
