Science Museum

The museum lets exclusively on limited dates, with the galleries combined into a single event. The IMAX auditorium or Illuminate serves as the main room, with Making the Modern World, Flight and Wonderlab used for receptions, dinners and breakouts, and the Smith Centre held back for VIP meetings. The published ceiling across the building is 1,500 guests for a standing reception; the exact figure depends on which galleries are taken.

The museum's central hall, holding the objects that shaped the last two centuries: engines, motor cars, aircraft and the Apollo 10 capsule's contemporaries. Available for evening hire and the largest gallery on the roster, taking 750 for a reception, 400 for dinner, or 350 with a stage.

The hall you walk into from Exhibition Road, running the length of the building beneath its galleried upper floors and holding the mill engines that opened the industrial age. Evening hire only, for standing receptions of up to 500. Four screens in the space can carry an event's branding, and the ceiling can be colour-phased.

A purpose-built events venue across levels four and five, and the one space in the museum with no collection in it. Level five carries a panoramic window over the rooftops of South Kensington and takes 450 standing, 400 for dinner or theatre, 272 cabaret; level four adds a further floor. A replica aircraft hangar hung with full-size aeroplanes, from Renaissance flight sketches through to the jump-jet, with overhead walkways that bring guests up among the airframes. A 400-seat auditorium with an 11.5m-wide stage and a screen the museum measures in double-decker buses, running both a 70mm film projector and a laser 4K one. The museum describes a state-of-the-art surround sound system in the room, and its in-house technical team can support an event or work alongside a production company. Daytime hire includes the IMAX foyer for catering.

Six zones tracing two centuries of communication technology, from the 1922 BBC broadcast to digital television, built around a full-height radio mast. Available for daytime and evening hire: 400 for a standing reception, 100 seated theatre-style for a panel.

Five galleries designed by WilkinsonEyre, holding over 3,000 objects — a full-size 1911 pharmacy, an iron lung, the first MRI scanner. Hired for evening receptions of up to 400, or a long-table dinner for 60.

The West Hall gallery, where the Apollo 10 command module and a Soyuz descent capsule sit side by side. Neil Armstrong's radio headset and a three-billion-year-old lunar sample are in the cases around them. Evening hire, for 400 standing or 200 at dinner.

The museum's interactive gallery, across seven zones with a chemistry bar and a canopy of stars. It takes 400 for a reception; the museum publishes a dinner for 32 under the stars, and 200 in the adjoining foyer.

The museum's newest permanent gallery, on the future of energy, with a mirrored suspended sculpture at its centre. Available for standing receptions of up to 220.

Zaha Hadid Architects' gallery, laid out around a 1929 experimental aircraft with a fabric canopy overhead modelling the airflow around it. The best-looking small dinner in the building: 200 for a reception, 30 on rounds, or 24 at a long table.

Fifty years of playable video games and consoles, from Pong through to current-generation VR, lit in arcade neon. Evening events for up to 200.
