Red Room

Hidden behind the Champagne Room and reached through a velvet curtain, the Red Room is The Connaught's wine bar and art space, the more relaxed counterpart to the celebrated Connaught Bar. It opened in 2021, the first new bar at the hotel in over a decade.

Bryan O'Sullivan Studio designed it to feel like a private collector's living room. There is almost no hard edge in the space: a bar clad in pink onyx and lava stone, rounded plaster forms, and plush custom seating set alongside antique Italian chairs bought at auction. The colour rouge runs through everything, from the rose-veined marble fireplace to the crimson-flecked glassware. On the walls hang works by Louise Bourgeois, among them 'I Am Rouge', shown here for the first time and framed by Brian Clarke's stained glass, with further pieces by Jenny Holzer, Trina McKillen and Tia-Thuy Nguyen.

The wine list is drawn from The Connaught's cellar of some thirty thousand bottles, rare vintages poured by the glass through Coravin, alongside a short list of wine-led cocktails from Agostino Perrone's team. It is an intimate room that seats a small crowd, which suits a private reception or a celebration held with the run of the bar. Hire is arranged through the house.
