/ About

One Great George Street is the global headquarters of the Institution of Civil Engineers, a four-domed Grade II listed Edwardian building on the corner of Parliament Square, a short walk from Westminster Abbey and St James's Park. James Miller won the 1910 competition to design it and the building opened in 1913; his steel frame allowed the great open interiors and the four glass domes that pour daylight over the entrance rotunda, the staircases and the Telford Theatre. Its rooms have been let for private events since 1989.

The Great Hall is the signature space: over 370 square metres beneath a painted ceiling by Charles Sims, with oak floors, gold-leafed marble columns and seven floor-to-ceiling windows. It holds 400 for a reception or 260 for a seated dinner, and the whole building can be taken for exclusive use. Around it sit 21 function rooms, from the wood-panelled Brunel and Council Rooms and the domed Smeaton Room down to intimate dining in the Stephenson and President's rooms, plus two lecture theatres. Many interconnect, and can be linked with sound and vision to run a single event across several floors.

The panelled halls, portrait-lined walls and heritage detail make it a set-piece for gala dinners, receptions and celebrations, and its history as a filming location speaks to how well the rooms photograph. An in-house events team and full catering handle the production end to end.
