/ About
October Gallery has occupied a Grade II listed Victorian school building off Theobalds Road since 1979, and has spent that time showing what it calls the Transvangarde: contemporary art from outside the Western canon. El Anatsui, Rachid Koraïchi and Romuald Hazoumè all showed here before the museums caught up.
Three spaces take events. The ground-floor gallery opens onto a walled courtyard garden, which is the combination the venue is hired for and rare in central London. The Theatre is a naturally lit room with wood floors, good acoustics and a Bechstein grand. The Club Room is a library with stained glass, oriental carpets and leather armchairs.
Guest hours in the gallery and courtyard run to half past ten in the evening. The building is a few minutes from Holborn and Russell Square, and there is a professional kitchen available with the ground floor.
