/ About
Lord's has been the home of Marylebone Cricket Club on St John's Wood Road since 1814, and the ground lets more than twenty of its rooms for private events outside the match calendar. The heart of it is the Pavilion, designed by Thomas Verity and built over the winter of 1889 to 1890, now Grade II* listed. Its Long Room runs along the ground floor, hung with paintings from MCC's collection that span the history of the game, with tall windows onto the outfield through which the players walk out to bat. It seats 200 for dinner and takes 300 for a reception, with the Long Room Bar alongside for drinks beforehand.
Above it sit smaller rooms with the same pedigree. The Writing Room, hung with cricketing scenes, looks over the ground through a large bay window. The Committee Dining Room on the top floor has a balcony over the turf and portraits of former MCC Presidents. The Players' Home Dressing Room, with its Honours Boards, opens for dinners of twelve between October and March, and the Pavilion Roof Terrace runs the length of the building for summer receptions.
For larger numbers the ground moves into its modern buildings. The Nursery Pavilion overlooks the Nursery Ground with 1,000 square metres under full-height glass, and is the largest space at Lord's: 550 seated, 900 standing. The Thomas Lord Suite by the Grace Gate holds 250 for dinner, and Pelham's, Compton's and The Edrich look straight across the Main Ground. The aluminium pod of the Barclays Media Centre, and the MCC Museum, the world's oldest sporting museum, are both available too. Catering is in-house throughout.
