Langan's Brasserie

Langan's opened on Stratton Street in October 1976, founded by Peter Langan and Michael Caine on the site of the old Le Coq d'Or. The original was London's most improbable institution: art-covered walls, mismatched lamps, no dress code, and a kitchen run from 1977 by Richard Shepherd that produced a menu almost unchanged until closure in 2018. It reborn in 2021 under new ownership, redesigned by Peter Mikic — three floors, each with its own visual identity, and the art collection kept central to everything.

The ground floor holds two distinct spaces. The main Brasserie is a cream and sage room with saffron accents, green velvet armchairs, a green-glass chandelier spanning the ceiling, and walls hung salon-style with work by David Hockney, Lucian Freud, Francis Bacon, and others. The Mural Room sits alongside it: high ceilings, natural light from tall Georgian windows, a marble-topped bar with olive-green fluted panels, and a mural by France-Lise McGurn. It runs from morning coffee through to late cocktails. Below ground, the Private Dining Room is a panelled, lacquered space in deep hunter green with a gilded dome ceiling, its own bar, and a private street entrance.

For private events the building offers three distinct atmospheres: the grandeur of the main Brasserie for large-scale dinners or dancing, the Mural Room for cocktail receptions, and the Private Dining Room for discreet intimate gatherings. The venue is available for exclusive hire, private dining, and DJ-led events on enquiry.
