/ About
Savoy Place has stood on the Victoria Embankment since 1889, built as an examination hall and home to the Institution of Engineering and Technology since 1909. A £30 million refurbishment reopened it in 2015 as one of central London's most technically capable event buildings, arranged over five floors between the Strand and the river. The heritage survives the rewiring: white marble and bronze in the entrance hall, Cuban mahogany panelling in the lecture theatre, a working members' library lined with historic bindings.
The spaces range widely. The Riverside Room is the largest flat-floor space, a bright hall opening onto a private balcony above the Thames that divides into five sections and takes dinners, receptions and dinner dances. Above it sits the Johnson Roof Terrace, an open deck with a panoramic sweep from the London Eye to the City. The Maxwell Library dines guests among the stacks under a high ceiling and two riverside balconies, and the Kelvin Lecture Theatre is a 451-seat auditorium in mahogany for conferences, awards and presentations.
Every room is wired for serious production: updated AV, large-format screens, streaming and broadcast facilities, with in-house catering and a dedicated events team. It is a working institution rather than a party venue, so hire is corporate and private events by arrangement, but the combination of river views, historic rooms and current technical fit-out makes it a strong option for launches, receptions and gala dinners.
