Fishmongers' Hall

The Fishmongers' Company has held its charter since 1272, and its hall — the third on the site — has stood at the northern end of London Bridge since 1834, a free-standing Greek Revival building by Henry Roberts, Grade II* listed and one of the few of its kind left in the City. The rooms sit directly over the Thames. From the Court Dining Room and the riverside terrace the water, London Bridge and the Shard fill the windows, which is a view almost no other livery hall can offer.
The Banqueting Hall is the centre of it: 22 metres long under a gilded coffered ceiling, hung with three 18th and 19th-century royal portraits, including Herbert Luther Smith's 1841 painting of the newly married Queen Victoria. It takes 350 for a reception or 190 for dinner, and lit by candles along the length of its tables it is one of the more theatrical rooms in the City. Six further spaces run from the chandeliered Court Drawing Room, where Annigoni's 1954-55 portrait of Elizabeth II hangs, down to the eight-seat Library. Catering is by the Hall's own kitchen.
One condition governs everything, and we would rather say it plainly than let a client discover it late: hire is weekdays only, events finish by 11.30pm, and the Hall does not permit dancing. That rules out a club-style night, and it makes Fishmongers' Hall a room for dinners, receptions, awards and launches instead — occasions where a musician or a DJ plays to a room that is seated or standing rather than on a dancefloor. The Banqueting Hall
PrivateThe Hall's principal room, 22.1m by 11.2m under a gilded coffered ceiling, hung with three royal portraits including Herbert Luther Smith's 1841 painting of Queen Victoria. It takes 350 for a reception and 190 for dinner, and carries the Hall's main AV suite, a hearing loop and lift access.
The Court Dining Room
PrivateA riverside room, 13.5m by 9m, with floor-to-ceiling windows onto London Bridge, the Thames and the Shard. The George II silver Knesworth Chandelier of 1752 hangs at its centre and is lit with real candles for evening events. It holds 150 for a reception or 77 on round tables, and connects to the Court Drawing Room.
The Court Room & Terrace
PrivateRefurbished in October 2025, a 9.8m by 9.2m room hung with art and artefacts from the Company's long association with the river, among them George Elgar Hicks's 1861 painting of Billingsgate Fish Market at six in the morning. It opens onto the riverside terrace above Fishmongers Wharf. Some access restrictions apply — the events team will advise.
The Court Drawing Room
PrivateA smaller, darker room, 12.2m by 7.1m, under triple chandeliers that are lit with real candles. Pietro Annigoni's 1954-55 portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, commissioned by the Company, hangs here. It takes 60 standing or 24 to 25 at table, and pairs with the lighter Court Dining Room next door.
The Committee Room
PrivateA working room for up to 14 at a boardroom table, with full AV and video conferencing, high ceilings, tall windows and air conditioning. Less ornate than the state rooms, and the one built for a full day's work.
The Gold Room
PrivateA secluded dining room seating 10 to 12 at a single long table laid with the Company's historic silver, its walls hung with fine art. Air-conditioned, with AV on request. Kept for board lunches, breakfasts and private dinners.
The Library
PrivateEight seats among the cultural holdings of the Company's 750-year history — the Hall's quietest room, used for private meetings and interviews, or as a break-out alongside the Court Room. Air-conditioned, AV on request.
