/ About

fabric occupies the cellars of the Metropolitan Cold Stores on Charterhouse Street, directly opposite Smithfield Market, in a run of Victorian brick vaulting built alongside Holborn Viaduct. It opened in October 1999. Twenty-five thousand square feet sit below the pavement: three rooms of exposed brick and raw concrete, five fully serviced bars, a green room, and a low-lit lounge the club calls the Cave.

The building hires whole or in parts, from a hundred guests to fifteen hundred. Room 1 takes a thousand and keeps the Bodykinetic dancefloor the club is known for, a floor mounted on bass transducers so the low end arrives through the feet. Room 2 and its Sunken Bar hold five hundred beneath a barrel-vaulted ceiling. Room 3, the smallest at a hundred and fifty, runs through a series of brick arches to its own bar. Rooms 2 and 3 were rebuilt acoustically in 2026, each system co-designed in-house for the shape and materials of the room it sits in.

Regular nights run to 6am on Fridays and Saturdays and the club publishes a 24-hour licence seven days a week, which is what makes the building usable for the formats a hotel ballroom cannot take: brand activations, fashion and press evenings, film and photography shoots, industry parties. A club-grade in-house sound system, a permanent DJ booth in every room and a moving-head lighting rig are already installed, so nothing has to be trucked in.

Room 1 & Mezz Bar

Private
Up to 1,000

The main room, and the one the club is built around. A timber dancefloor mounted on bass transducers faces a low stage under an open rig of moving heads and hanging speaker arrays; a mezzanine runs above it with its own bar and seating, used as a quieter level when the floor is full.

Room 2 & Sunken Bar

Private
Up to 500

A barrel-vaulted hall of bare brick with the booth raised at the far end and low banquettes down both flanks. The Sunken Bar sits between this room and Room 1, a brick colonnade hung with swing seats and lined with benches, and works as the break-out space when the two floors are hired together. Its sound system was rebuilt in 2026.

Room 3

Up to 150

The smallest and the oldest-feeling of the three: a run of Victorian brick arches with a reclaimed timber bar built into one vault and a second bar through the arch beyond it. Steel walkways cross overhead. Its sound system was rebuilt in 2026, with new subs set into the concrete floor.

The Cave

Private

A vaulted side room off the main circulation, lined with long banquettes and lit through a wall of red glass block. The club uses it as its VIP area and holds it back from the public floor; on a hire it works as a green room or a host's table away from the noise.
