Alto by San Carlo

Alto is the rooftop restaurant at Selfridges on Oxford Street, on the store's fifth floor and reached by an express lift from the Fragrance hall on the ground floor. The San Carlo group opened it in partnership with Selfridges in April 2018, and the room is built around a fully retractable roof that opens or closes over with the seasons.

The look is the Amalfi Coast brought to the West End: bright Mediterranean colours, lemon trees and greenery overhead. The terrace was refitted in spring 2025 in a yellow palette, with rattan furniture on wooden floors, trellis-style wall panels and cascading foliage hung with the house's lemons, and it keeps its own bar for cocktails and aperitivi. The kitchen sends out Italian dishes made for sharing, with seafood, pasta and San Carlo's signatures, and seasonal installations dress the rooftop until it changes over for winter.

Alto takes private bookings for up to 30 guests on the rooftop, with a private bar, for a lunch, a dinner or a drinks reception. The group pitches it at private celebrations and corporate gatherings alike.
