Harold Pinter's No Man's Land, the two-hander written for Richardson and Gielgud, gets a rare Donmar revival with Simon Russell Beale and Rupert Everett.
Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land opens at the Donmar Warehouse in Covent Garden on Saturday 13 February 2027, with Simon Russell Beale and Rupert Everett in its two leads. The run continues to Saturday 10 April 2027.
Pinter wrote the play in 1975 for Ralph Richardson and John Gielgud. It has stayed a two-hander for great old actors ever since, with the parts later taken by Gambon and Rylance, then McKellen and Stewart.
Two men drink through a night in a Hampstead house. Neither will say whether they were at Oxford together or have never met before, and the play does not settle it. The pleasure lies in watching two performers decide how much either of them believes.
It is Pinter at his least explained, and funnier in performance than on the page. The title comes from a line about a place that never changes, never grows older, and remains forever icy and silent.
Russell Beale plays the wealthy writer who has stopped writing, and Everett the man who will not leave his house. Everett does almost no stage work, and the room seats 250.
