Andy Serkis, the actor behind Gollum and Caesar, tells his own story on stage to mark his new book My Pressures, in conversation with Mark Kermode.
Andy Serkis, the actor who played Gollum, tells his own story at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in Covent Garden on Sunday 15 November 2026. The film critic Mark Kermode joins him in conversation.
Serkis was born in Ruislip in west London and studied at Lancaster University. He spent his early career on stage before film made his name.
His Gollum in The Lord of the Rings made him the leading actor in performance capture. He went on to play Caesar in the Planet of the Apes films, King Kong, Ulysses Klaue in Black Panther and Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars.
In 2011 he co-founded The Imaginarium, a performance-capture studio in Ealing. He most recently played Alfred opposite Robert Pattinson in The Batman, and he now directs and stars in The Hunt for Gollum.
The evening marks his new book, My Pressures, which sets his own life beside the characters who shaped him. He talks about his early years as an actor and about working inside the largest film franchises, then takes questions from the audience.
Kermode, his host, is a film critic, broadcaster and author.
