Bob Mortimer, comedian and author of The Satsuma Complex, talks to Steph McGovern about his new novel Michael.
Bob Mortimer, the comedian and author of The Satsuma Complex, talks about his new novel Michael at Methodist Central Hall Westminster on Monday 16 November 2026. The broadcaster Steph McGovern leads the conversation.
Mortimer grew up in Middlesbrough and worked as a solicitor in south London before comedy took over. With Vic Reeves he made Shooting Stars, and he is a team captain on Would I Lie to You?
He also presents Gone Fishing with Paul Whitehouse. His memoir And Away… came out in 2021, and his first novel, The Satsuma Complex, followed in 2022.
Hotel Avocado and The Long Shoe came next, and his novels have now sold in the millions. Michael tells of a man given a second chance at life who is sent back to the hardest years of his past.
Waterstones Piccadilly hosts the evening, and Mortimer answers a selection of questions sent in by the audience.
McGovern spent eight years on BBC Breakfast and has worked in financial journalism for more than twenty years. She co-hosts The Rest Is Money podcast with Robert Peston, and her first thriller, Deadline, was published in 2025.
