The Laver Cup comes to The O2 from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September 2026, tennis played for three days as a team sport rather than as individuals, Europe against the World.
The competition is named for Rod Laver, the Australian who won all four majors in a single calendar year twice, in 1962 and again in 1969, a feat nobody in the men’s game has matched since. It was founded in 2017 on the Ryder Cup model: captains on the bench, and players who spend the rest of the season as rivals coaching one another instead. Roger Federer’s management company built it with Tennis Australia and the Brazilian businessman Jorge Paulo Lemann, and Björn Borg and John McEnroe captained the first editions against each other.
The scoring is what makes the third day matter. Twelve matches are played across the three days, nine singles and three doubles. A match won on Friday is worth one point, on Saturday two and on Sunday three, and thirteen points wins the cup, so the result is rarely settled before the final day.
Yannick Noah captains Europe with Tim Henman as his vice-captain, and the billed teams carry Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud against Taylor Fritz, Alex de Minaur and Ben Shelton. The tournament changes host city every year and has named Los Angeles for 2027.
