Artwork, the Croydon producer who helped take dubstep into the charts, leads New Year’s Eve at KOKO in Camden on Thursday 31 December 2026. The duo Make A Dance supports.
Artwork is Arthur Smith, who heard Chicago house on late-night radio at 12 or 13 and was raving round the M25 by 17. He went on to run the studio above Big Apple Records in Croydon.
He released techno as Grain and later helped produce Daniel Bedingfield’s number one, “Gotta Get Thru This”. In the late 2000s he formed Magnetic Man with Benga and Skream, whom he had met at Big Apple.
The trio’s 2010 debut album reached number five in the UK, and “I Need Air” became a top ten single. As a DJ he is known for long sets that cut through funk, house, acid and techno, and for Art’s House, his touring night of extended solo sets.
He plays the countdown into 2027 in the Theatre, a home night for a DJ whose career began in the record shops of south London.
Make A Dance play house, disco and edits in support, and the Sue Veneers dancers perform.
