Tom Stoppard’s play moves between the same Derbyshire room in 1809 and the present, and its two casts of characters share the stage in the final scene without ever meeting. It runs two hours fifty minutes with a twenty-minute interval. The transfer is a producing house putting its own work into a commercial West End theatre rather than a commercial producer buying it, which is why the billing still reads The Old Vic and the booking still runs through Waterloo.
